Calling all Jordanian Designers! UNESCO Amman presents a Design Contest for Handmade Objects!

The contest in partnership with Al-Housh offers a unique opportunity for all aspiring designers to compete for a prestigious award by presenting an innovative design of hand-made pieces to be manufactured by a local community empowerment project.

The designs must be:

- Made by an individual Jordanian designer and not an organization or firm
 - Inspired by Jordanian culture and heritage
 - Can be executed by local artisans or through a community empowerment project
 - Based mostly on natural and/or recycled materials; submissions using locally available materials are encouraged

The designs could be made of the following materials:

 - Rugs and weaving
 - Natural fibers (banana and palm leaves, straw, wicker, paper etc.)
 - Embroidery, sewing, knitting
 - Silver and brass/copper work
 - Mosaics
 - Woodwork
 - Sand art
 - Glass

مسابقة اليونسكو للتصميم  

توفر المسابقة، بالتعاون مع الحوش، فرصة ذهبية للمصمميين الصاعدين في الأردن للتنافس على جائزة دولية مرموقة و ذلك بتقديم تصاميم إبداعية للمنتجات اليدوية و التي بالإمكان تصنيعها من قبل أحد مؤسسات و مشاريع تمكين المجتمعات المحلية.

و يجب أن تتوفر في التصميم الشروط الاتية:

 - أن يكون التصميم من قبل شخص و ليس مؤسسة أو شركة

 - أن يكون مستلهما من الثقافة و التراث الأردني

 - أن يكون التصميم قابل للتصنيع الحرفي من قبل أحد مشاريع التنمية و التمكين المحلي

 - أن يستخدم مواد طبيعية و تم إعادة تدويرها (تشجع المسابقة استخدام المواد المتوفرة محليا)

يجب أن يصنع التصميم من المواد التالية:

السجاد أو الغزل - 

(المواد الطبيعية (أوراق شجرة الموز أو طلح النخيل أو القش أو الورق - 

التطريز أو الخياطة أو غزل الصوف - 

الفضة أو النحاس أو البرونز - 

الفسيفساء - 

الخشب - 

الفن الرملي - 

الزجاج -

After a tough debate over the design submissions that we received, we are proud to announce the winner of the "Design for a Cause" competition!

Congratulations to Sahar Madanat for designing the winning T-shirt for our "Design for a Cause" competition, where tasmeemME joined forces with Ruwwad and Aramex in an initiative to help underprivileged women from Jabal Al-Natheef work and earn a living from home.

Sahar's name will be displayed on each label alongside with the name of the woman who embroidered the T-shirt.

Due to numerous requests, we've pushed the deadline to Thursday October 13th, so come on and show us what you've got!

The Idea:

tasmeemME is joining forces with Ruwwad and Aramex in an initiative to help underprivileged women from Jabal Al-Natheef work and earn a living from home. The idea is to design prints that the women can transfer onto t-shirts using their amazing embroidery (tatreez) skills.

The Theme:

So what's your favorite thing about Jordan? Is it a specific food? Or perhaps a location? Maybe even a word? The theme revolves around anything you love about the country.

What to do:

Send in your design, be it an illustration, calligraphy, symbol etc... and make sure it can be embroidered onto a t-shirt and not printed. So no tiny details, and try to keep colors simple please!

We will then choose the best design to be produced and sold, with your name on each label!

Email your submission in Illustrator format to competition@tasmeemme.com by Saturday 8-Oct-2011 Thursday 13 Oct 2011 at 11.55pm Amman time.
