Since the office opened in 2003 Ashoka Arab World (AAW) has supported 54 fellows working in Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, and we are actively searching and targeting social entrepreneurs in the remaining Arab world countries.
Ashoka Arab World works to:
- Promote the concept of social entrepreneurship in the region by electing and
supporting social entrepreneurs and providing them with technical assistance,
consulting, stipends, and the resources they need to make a positive impact on society.
- Spread the idea of Everyone A Changemaker™ by creating an enabling environment for the citizen sector to get involved in social change.
- Shift the focus from traditional forms of charity to investing in sustainable development initiatives by encouraging partnerships between the social and corporate sectors.
- Link Fellows regionally and globally who are working within the same sector in order to achieve maximum impact and exposure.
Ashoka envisions a world where everyone is a changemaker : a world that responds quickly and effectively to social challenges, and where each individual has the freedom, confidence and societal support to address any social problem and drive change. We want to bring about a change in the existing mentality, to instill the notion that everyone can be a social entrepreneur, creating effective and systemic social change within his or her field and region. The only things that are needed are commitment, passion, creativity and originality. Ashoka wants to realize this by shaping a Citizen Sector that is entrepreneurial, productive and globally integrated.
