CSCC is a corrosion mechanism caused mainly by the environment (temperature, chlorides & stress) progressively deteriorates until material failure. CSCC is one of the most common reasons why austenitic stainless steel (SS 304, 316, 321) deteriorates in chemical and oil & gas industries. A number of Near Misses have been identified in the Al-Shaheen Field for incidents related to the failure of 300 series austenitic stainless steel components in hydrocarbon systems due to CSCC. The scope of this project was to identify and eliminate CSCC issues from Oil & Gas industry.
