During the nineteen-sixties and seventies I was a huge fan of both steam and diesel locomotives but then drifted away from the scene when that terrible thing called ' work ' got in the way. After a pretty successful career in retailing for over twenty years I rekindled my interest in all things railways and, along with my son, came up with the idea of buying our own diesel locomotive. The new freight operator E.W.S. were disposing of many locos and we proceeded to bid for a class [Hidden]), a bid which to my great surprise was successful. The seeds of our activities in locomotive preservation were now sown. Our plans were to perhaps buy a second locomotive but,as you will realise if you read on, those plans have certainly developed over the years. The next purchase was Class [Hidden]) made during 2003 but then after a period of inactivity and my own heart operation events really took off with avengance in 2007 with the addition of 37146,37674 and 47785;37146 being extremely fortunate as I filled out the tender form incorrectly but ended up with the loco!. 2009 then found 37294 joining the fleet, being saved at the last minute from entering C.F.Booth's yard in Rotherham and being diverted to The Embsay Railway where it was started within a fortnight. Our enthusiasm and resolve was then ,however, tested to the hilt late in 2010 when metal thieves raided five of the locomotives based at Kirkby Stephen causing thousands of pounds worth of damaged. We were left with two locomotives severely damaged but are determined to get them all back up and running as soon as possible. As a possible replacement for 37146 which was possibly the worst affected, we had initially bought 37042 from D.B.Schencker but have decided to attempt to repair 146 as well as keeping 042. Time will tell if we are successful. 2012 then saw us move away from railway locomotives with the purchase of a 4 inch scale Clayton and Shuttleworth traction engine which has been shown at a number of events during 2013,being awarded 'best in show' at the 2013 Cumbria Steam Gathering. And finally, our biggest undertaking to date. I had always dreamed of owning my own steam engine in my youth and in October 2012 we took the plunge and bought 9F(92219), the second last locomotive built by British Railways back in 1960. What an end to the story so far!!. Please click onto the index photographs and read a more detailed history of each of the locomotives in the fleet and details of the work our small team has undertaken over the years, ongoing work and our plans for the future. Locomotive 92219.
