In this amazing scuplture, I have used the powerful Zbrush software as I wanted to create something interesting, some kind of creature or character with personnality.
For creating such a great sculpture, it was necessary for me to search in the internet for some helpful references to use. The idea, which I found to be interesting, was to sculpt some kind of a bird monster or character. Of course I had to give some time to exploit the idea and generate a good brief or story about the character I was looking for.
The story I chosen for this character was that he is a special kind of monsters, but which have personnality, he is an underground bird that protects an old source of energy that is maintaining the balance of the planet or place that belongs to, no matter who tries to dig deeply into the ground to steel or destroy this energy, undoubtedly, he will exterminate and eleminate that meddlesome, with its great speed and awesome fighting skills.
With the story being generated, the real work began. I started to block out the basic shapes with the basic primitives built in Zbrush. I tried, in early stages, to mimic the personnality and gesture into the sculpture in order to have a strong foundation and get a strong feeling of that creature. After the blocking stage is done. I moved on to secondary shapes that was achieved by sculpting in much higher resolution, at the same time trying to keep the proportions correct throughout the sculpting process.
Most of the character at this stage was already complete, the only thing I did before rendering the final image was to add a final pass of detail to increase the level of detail and realism incorporated in this sculpture.
Finally, with the character done, I setup simple materials and lights’ settings and then do some renders from different views and extract the needed passes to use within photoshop for further enhancements.
Note that I left the bird sculpture in a neutral pose to show off the overall outline and forms sculpted clearly.
