OVERVIEW
Innovations for Youth Capacity and Engagement (IYCE), a joint development effort between the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and NetHope, seeking engagement for positive social change by supporting the development of a youth gaming and new media strategy in order to strengthen youth programs by developing tools and effective models utilizing the power of innovative technology, including serious games, to empower, engage and educate youth and assist them in their transition to adulthood.

THE NEED
Nethope, under the direction of the IYCE Program Manager and Game Executive Producer E-Line Media, is looking for expressions of interest from a preferably Jordanian, Community Manager Consultant to build, grow and manage communities around a Facebook platform city building game that will enhance existing USAID programs in Jordan, as well as other participating programs, by supporting outreach to youth.

The IYCE game will focus on strengthening community engagement and systems thinking skills of youth through enabling the creation of the participants’ own digital city. In the process of this city building, players will face concrete challenges, such as energy shortages, diminishing access to water, a growing population and a challenging economic environment, for which they will develop appropriate solutions. In addition to the game play, learning will be enhanced through micro-engagements (i.e., embedded videos and mini-games) and linkages to real world development programs (e,g., players receive rewards for participating in real world community engagement).


JOB DESCRIPTION
The Community Manager Consultant will be responsible for writing all of the daily communications in the game once the beta version of the game launches as well as management of all of the external social media (e.g. Twitter, YouTube) communication with the community. The position will also be responsible for monitoring and responding to player feedback (e.g. Facebook responses) providing feedback on community activity to the team (concerns, enthusiasm, best questions of the week). He/She will work closely with the game producer and the game developer, to optimize and loop back into the game design players’ feedback and help drive traffic to the game’s Facebook page. Also, the Community Manager will work with other IYCE core team member and join virtually critical production meetings.

The ideal candidate should be experienced working in social media writing, production and outreach, have excellent writing skills, and be passionate about building and growing communities around social impact initiatives. He/She will be the voice of the IYCE pilot game externally with the player community. It is essential that Community Manager is creative and proactive, and identifies and analyzes issues, patterns and trends.
