A design of a primary school based on the concept of Friends Schools. The Friends School is based on Quaker values of community, spirituality, responsibility and stewardship. Particular focus is given to site analysis and treatment, landscaping and storm-water drainage. The proposed site in question is the ridge condition found at the tip of Jamaica Pond in Boston, MA. The pond is an extension of the Emerald Necklace that encompasses the Greater Boston Area.

  • program concept - a spinal circulation path along the slope filters students into the surrounding programs, getting them further into more private spaces. Wedge-like barriers not yet physically manifest define the transition between public and the more private spaces.

  • concept refined to layout - enclosed spaces have not yet been specified. Perpendicular drainage to the slope and circulation start to define wedge-shaped gardens.
