About the Project
We are producing a childrens biography series for readers aged 8-12, celebrating great figures from the Arab world. The series consists of 20 books — approximately 80-100 pages each, 5.5 x 8.5 inch trim size, black and white interior, full color cover, print-on-demand via Amazon KDP and IngramSpark.
We are looking for a talented illustrator and book designer who can read a finished manuscript, make independent creative decisions about what to illustrate and where, create those illustrations, and lay out the complete book to professional self publishing and print on demand standards.
The Books
The first box set includes five biographies of iconic Arab figures from the twentieth century. Each book is warm, engaging, and written with pride in Arab civilization. The illustration style should reflect that — culturally specific, expressive, and sophisticated enough for a child who wants to be taken seriously as a reader.
What We Need
Cover Illustration:
One full color cover illustration per book, following a detailed brief provided on appointment
Interior Illustration:
Black and white pencil sketch style — loose, expressive, and warm, in the tradition of the Who Was? biography series
Read each manuscript and identify the scenes, moments, and figures that most need visual support
Your creative judgment on what to illustrate and where — we will not prescribe placement or content
Chapter opener illustrations, spot illustrations, sidebar graphics, timeline graphics, and glossary visuals as you see fit
People, places, and settings rendered with cultural accuracy
Layout:
Professional interior layout in Adobe InDesign or equivalent
Export of print-ready PDF/X-1a for IngramSpark
Export of print-ready PDF for KDP
Skills Required
Strong illustration portfolio — childrens books, childrens biography, nonfiction, or editorial illustration preferred
Ability to work from a creative brief for covers and independently for interiors
Proficiency in Adobe InDesign or equivalent professional layout software
Proven experience producing print-ready files for KDP and IngramSpark
Good communication — roughs and sketches shared for approval before finalizing.

Starting with one of the five books as a paid test. If the quality and working relationship are right, we will commission all five.
