Overview of the role
The successful candidate will need to be an expert in Microsoft technologies (SharePoint, Microsoft Dynamics CRM, Microsoft Dynamics ERP, Microsoft Dynamics AX, Microsoft Enterprise Project Management (EPM), Microsoft BizTalk Server, Microsoft Unified Communications, Microsoft BI solutions, Enterprise Content Management (ECM) solutions, Workflow Automation, etc.) and responsible for establishing and enhancing Netways' capability in Microsoft solutions development.
The remit of this role includes Software Development Management and managing the team responsible for all technical developments using and integrating appropriate Microsoft Technologies for new developments as well as enhancements, improvements and upgrades to those existing systems in their area of responsibility. It is necessary to not only keep the skills of Netways' team up to date but also for this role to understand the future of different technologies such as web services, SOA, BI and Data warehousing and the roadmap that will be necessary for us to follow so that developments are able to support and deliver the world class solutions to respond to our customer needs. Development methodologies are also changing towards an Agile approach and the post holder will be expected to advise on the best approach.
The Solution Development Manager is expected to develop and continually shape the team. The Manager will be expected to be a good communicator, leader, motivator and influencer. It is necessary to possess a sufficient breadth of technical knowledge to be able to lead from the front but the key emphasis of this role is on management. The Solution Development Manager will be expected to contribute to the development of strategy relating to future architecture, development tools, programming languages and technical direction of the Microsoft platform. The Solution Development Manager and his team will need to liaise with PMO, Project Managers, Support Services and work closely with the other Solution Development Managers and Technical Managers within Solution Development in respect of project resourcing, development design and testing of all proposed new solutions.
Responsibilities of a Solution Development Manager will include:
1- With Technical Teams:
a. Managing the day-to-day field operations of the Technical teams.
b. Motivating and developing individuals, ensuring that training, skills and experience equips the team for both current development requirements and emerging Microsoft technologies.
c. Reviewing Technical Teams performance and handling the Appraisal of all team members with the HR department.
d. Driving technical teams to think Object Oriented and to think Re-usable and Rapid Development Environment.
e. Managing the Software Development Lifecycle for all solutions within the team's portfolio in order to insure timely delivery following Netways' Methodology.
f. Ensuring that the team applies and maintains standards for effective software development and delivery, consistent with the appropriate development methodology, Netways' project management methodology and best practice in software development.
2- With Technical Department:
a. Establishing and executing policies and procedures within the Technical Department.
b. Setting the Guidelines, Best Practices to implement and deliver software related projects.
c. Reviewing and improving software development methodology and procedures to ensure effective delivery of high quality of software that meets business requirements.
d. Providing strategic direction and be responsible for setting and reviewing overall development standards, development methodology, working practices and procedures, approaches and documentation, source control management etc.
e. Contributing to the overall performance of Netways b
